    Well,i dont know much about ajax,but i have seen one site where free chat app can be found, its pcpin.com .Though its not ajax based ,but its good.

    Wow, thank you very much for this post. Now I just need to find that one gem: Ajax IRC that can connect to IRC servers (Not mibbit, something I can install on my own servers and not be bound to another brand).
